WHAT IS ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease)?
If there is damage to the kidneys and there is a decreased ability to filter out toxins, this is called Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Millions of people in this country have the earlier stages of CKD. If kidney function drops to around 10%, this is referred to as End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Once the kidneys fail, patients need renal replacement therapy or they will not be able to live. The main causes for CKD in this country are diabetes and high blood pressure.
Our goal is to help debunk the myth that dialysis patients cannot live as long as others.
